FAQs

What is the difference between Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Treaty of Waitangi?

Te Tiriti o Waitangi was written in te Reo Māori and was agreed by Māori rangatira (chiefs) and the Crown in 1840. Importantly, it guaranteed the tino rangatiratanga Māori had always had since they discovered Aotearoa would not be disturbed. The Treaty of Waitangi was in English and included reference to sovereignty, power to make laws over all people in Aotearoa, which was never discussed or agreed. Our workshops focus on what was actually agreed.

Who are the workshops for?

We work with workplaces, departments, schools, boards, and community groups of all kinds. Whether your team has no prior knowledge or has already begun learning, our workshops are designed to be clear, interactive, and judgement-free.

How long is the workshop?

Each session runs for about 1.5–2 hours and is delivered at your premises. We can accommodate groups of 15–50 people.

How much does it cost?

Pricing depends on the size of your group and your location. Please email us for a price.

Do participants need to prepare anything in advance?

No preparation is required — we meet your team where they are. All you need to do is book and turn up.

Does the workshop help us meet our workplace obligations?

Yes — our workshops help your organisation understand its obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, build cultural competency, and take meaningful steps towards partnership. The workshops will leave you with a clear understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, but of course workshops are educational only and do not constitute legal advice or confirmation that your organisation is Treaty compliant. That is up to you to embody in the way you act every day, but we empower you with the understanding that can make this possible.
